Fortuna Sittard head coach Danny Buijs has sharply criticised his team's attitude following a heavy home defeat. The 1-5 loss to Ajax on September 12 was, in his view, primarily down to a lack of pressure and concentration.

Buijs gave his analysis on ESPN. He said his team applied far too little forward pressure in the first half. "We dropped back so far that I was afraid we would end up sitting in the stands," the coach reacted. Ajax had around 30 touches in Fortuna's penalty area within the first 25 minutes.

Zeefuik singled out

Buijs specifically singled out Lequincio Zeefuik. The 21-year-old forward received a yellow card and was substituted at halftime. "He was not good and lacked concentration," Buijs explained. He linked that inattention to a foul on Thilo Kehrer. According to the coach, Zeefuik also reacted poorly to comments from teammates and needs to learn to manage his focus better. Buijs acknowledged the player does extremely good things, but also many things that need improvement.

The defeat to Ajax is the second in their last five matches. Fortuna Sittard sit sixth in the Eredivisie with 10 points from 5 games. They have scored 11 goals and conceded 9. The next assignment is an away fixture against leaders Twente on January 8, a key test for their recovery. The full standings and squad can be found here.
