Fortuna Sittard starts new season with renewed squad
Fortuna Sittard begins the new Eredivisie season with a significantly changed squad. After the departures of Kaj Sierhuis and Shawn Adewoye, the club has brought in several new players under technical director Joris Mathijsen. The Limburgers finished last season in 12th place with 36 points (10W-6D-14L) and a goal difference of 44-55 (-11).
Who are the new signings?
Fortuna Sittard has signed Nick de Groot (FC Den Bosch), Sven Simons (FC Eindhoven) and Siebe Wylin (Club NXT) on free transfers. Additionally, Ole Romeny, Anthony Descotte, Lequincio Zeefuik and Shiloh 't Zand have been loaned. The club is still looking for a new winger and central defender.
What are the expectations for this season?
With a squad that has been largely renewed, Fortuna Sittard hopes to stay above the relegation line again. Coach Danny Buijs has already shown in the preseason that he can form a cohesive team. The squad won against Lierse SK (1-0), KRC Genk (2-1) and APOEL Nicosia (2-1).
