Fortuna Sittard ended the international break with a convincing friendly victory in Belgium. Danny Buijs's side came from a goal down to beat KRC Genk 2-1 thanks to second-half strikes from Mohamed Ihattaren and Mickaël Descotte.
Genk took an early lead in the 18th minute through a long-range effort from Bryan Heynen. Fortuna created chances of their own before the break through Tijjani Guth and Kaj de Groot. A triple substitution at half-time changed the game. Ihattaren equalised in the 68th minute with a calm finish into the bottom corner. Nine minutes later, he played a perfect through ball to Descotte, who coolly lobbed the onrushing goalkeeper to seal a 2-1 win. Genk pushed for an equaliser, but keeper Mike Koopmans comfortably held a header from Bibout.
Line-up
Fortuna started with Branderhorst in goal and a back line of Guth, Van Ottele, Dahlhaus and Descotte. The midfield featured Pinto, De Groot, Michut, Brittijn and Sinkgraven, with Ihattaren up front. Koopmans, Wylin and Peterson were introduced at half-time, followed later by Simons, Van Burgsteden, Saygi and Shakata.
The win extends a strong run of four victories in Fortuna's last five matches across all competitions. The club currently sits sixth in the Eredivisie with 13 points from seven games. Focus now shifts to the league's return. A key home fixture against fourth-placed FC Twente awaits on Saturday, 10 October. Fans can check the latest standings and the full squad on the site.
